Batman and the Outsiders #3: Pages 14-15
Change of venue:
A farm. Just a farm. But in Mike Barr's hands, a most dramatic place indeed! Nice to know that even Gotham's outlying countryside is a s#!thole.
Mike Barr Rule of Stealth #1: If you feel a double-take coming on, give it voice. Status: Obeyed.Mike Barr Rule of Stealth #2: Concentrate. Even if that means letting them jump you from behind. Status: Obeyed.
Mike Barr Rule of Stealth #3: Make sure you have a glowing girl along. Status: Obeyed.
Mike Barr Rule of Writing New Characters #1: If you like your characters, the reader will like your characters. Status: You're deluding yourself, guv.No but honestly, how are we ever going to think of the Outsiders as a solid superhero team if their leader keeps telling us they aren't?
Henchmen opinions show us why they're only henchmen. Giving you jobs is long-term employment. Burying toxic waste in the country is a weekend contract or at most, a summer job for university students.
Finally a break from the ridiculous plot. Let's just enjoy the mindless violence, ok?Ahhh, that's better. Now that I'm all refreshed, some strategy:
"Take them alive if you can." This is again the Batman who let Geo-Force throw a guy off a building, but it's not the Batman *I* grew up with (I was all grown up by Tim Burton's Batman, thanks). I guess if you've got a teammate with a sword, you have to make concessions. Anyway, she WILL try, won't she?
Uhm... who knows? Is that the sound of someone losing their weapon? An arm? A massive amount of blood?
Over at another ditch, Halo's getting herself killed. (Actually, she isn't. It's a holographic trick. But I can dream, can't I?)
And out of nowhere, Agent Orange and his Orangeacopter! My advice to him: If the superheroes attack you in an attempt to stop you, it's not a diversion. It's an attack. It's only a diversion if they don't want you to see what you're really up to, like disarming the bomb. It's also rarely a very good diversion unless Uhura's abs are in the frame. But stay tuned cuz he knows how to handle a woman!
